Attachment

The mind is a restless wanderer that gets attached to all the things it sees and hears.

It is mostly through eyes and ears that the mind gathers things to satisfy its desires.

Most of the time, it just goes around and grasps everything it wants.

However, this should not be the case. In fact, before the mind gets attached to something, we must have discrimination to see whether the desired object is good for us or not.

The 15th sutra of Patanjali warns us not to mistake non-attachment with indifference.

Every desire creates a ripple in our mind which prevents it from being steady and calm.

If you want to dedicate yourself to any type of practice, you need to be wholeheartedly engaged in it, and a restless mind prevents you from succeeding in that.

To liberate yourself through meditation and Yogic practice, your mind must be free from attachment!

In fact, some people need not even practice meditation if their minds are free from selfish desires. You can see that they are always at ease, and they never become restless and disappointed.

To avoid any misunderstandings, being unattached entails being without personal desires.

Only when we become unattached in our personal lives can we become able to serve others. By doing so, happiness and joy will come our way.

Each desire binds us and makes us restless. Only desirelessness can bring us the liberation we seek.
