Mind, Body and Spirit Balance

Connection between Body, Mind and Spirit has been known in the Far East for millennia, and has recently come to the West.

Energy, as the beginning of everything, connects all three aspects in one. Energy is everywhere.

Traditional forms of medicine in the Eastern cultures are all based on the connection between the energy centers of the body which are used for both health and vitality, and more mental powers and spiritual understanding.

These centers of energy in our body are known as chakras.

Energy flows freely through the chakras and keeps Body, Mind and Spirit in balance.

If one of the chakras is blocked, energy flowing is blocked too and different problems may affect physical, mental or spiritual illnesses.

Hence it is very important to work on all aspects of our being and try to stay balanced.

Yoga is the most popular discipline for maintaining mental and physical balance.

Interesting fact is that different types of chakras are the basis for the different schools of yoga.

What are Chakras

Nadis and chakras are described in The Upanishads which are considered a part of the Vedas, the oldest canonical literature of Hinduism.

Upanishads implied that those who wish to attain liberation must learn the location of the chakras through personal experience.

Some Eastern cultures talk about 114 “confluences of nadis”.

Nadis are the channels of prana (breath, life-giving force).

These “confluences of nadis” we know as chakras.

Chakra in Sanskrit means “wheel” or “disk”, but they are considered to be in the form of a triangle.

They are called chakras or “wheel” because they enable flow of energy throughout the body.

The Seven Chakras

Although there are many more of them, the 7 main chakras are particularly important.

1 - Root Chakra

First and foundation chakra, located in the root of the spine and connected with primary needs and sense of safety.

2 - Sacral Chakra

Creativity and sexual chakra, located above the pubic bone and connected with emotional identity, creativity and desires.

3 - Solar Plexus Chakra

Personal power and ambition chakra, located in the area of the breastbone, connected with ego and self-belief.

4 - Heart Chakra

Love chakra, located at the center of the chest, connected with love and relationships.

5 - Throat Chakra

Sound chakra, located at the center of the neck, connected with expressions and communication.

6 - Third Eye Chakra

Spiritual chakra, located between the eyebrows, connected with intuition, clairvoyance, extrasensory perception and lucid dreaming.

7 - The Crown Chakra

Divine chakra, located at the crown of the head, represents great spirituality and connection with Higher-Self and The Supreme Deity.

As you can see, the seven chakras are located along the spine, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head.

It is believed that every chakra has its own color, element and mantra to initiate it.

The first three chakras, starting at the base of the spine, are chakras of matter. They are more physical in nature.

Working through the physical chakras is the way up to opening the higher spiritual chakras.

Healing Through Chakras

Since everything in the mind-body-spirit energy system is moving, it’s essential that your seven main chakras stay open and fluid.

If you learn how to balance your seven chakras, you will experience a positive effect on your body and your life.

In addition to emotional and spiritual balance, you will quickly notice the effect of energetic cleansing on your physical health too.

Blockages of your inner energy may sometimes prevent a free energy flow through your body.

In such cases, you should open your chakras.

Each chakra has its own specifics and each must be activated in a different way.

Each chakra will be covered in detail in its own lesson.

Chakras in Western Culture

Although the idea of chakras originates from the East, it has recently come to the West as well.

Interesting fact is that positions of chakras can be compared with the nerve system known in the western medicine.

Maybe that is why people in the West become more open to these ideas from the East.

Acupuncture is a well known healing method based on these positions of energy. It has recently become popular in other countries.

Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a method for balancing the flow of energy.

Acupuncturists insert tiny needles through the skin in certain locations in the body.

It is believed that inserting needles in certain locations will re-balance energy flow and energy balance will then bring health, mental and physical.

On the other hand, Western acupuncturists see these points as places to stimulate nerves and muscles, triggering body's natural painkillers.

Whether you want to try acupuncture or just work on opening your chakra with mental exercises, you will surely soon feel the benefits of opened chakras on your mental and physical body.
