Alan Ames

Charlotte Young, a teacher in Spring Valley Junior High School, decided to have her class take part in a parapsychological study.

Her pupils were to put on blindfolds and try to identify the colors of sheets of paper that were handed to them.

To everyone’s astonishment, one pupil named Alan Ames was able to identify the colors with almost 100 percent accuracy.

When asked how he was able to see the colors without using his eyes, the young man said that he could “see” the colors with the palms of his hands.

The word about Alan’s extraordinary ability spread across California until a reporter from the Saturday San Diego Union decided to investigate this peculiar phenomenon.

By the time the reporter became interested in Alan’s story, the young man could already describe news articles that were placed between his hands.

On the day of the investigation, in an effort to convince the reporter of his abilities, Alan perfectly read the serial number of a dollar bill and described the reporter’s press card to a tee while being blindfolded.

What is especially interesting is that Alan could “see” with his hands in situations where his eyes would fail him. Namely, he could identify objects that were covered with opaque cloths.

Alan, however, was not the only one who could pull off such incredible feats.
