Dreams and Psychic Abilities

History tells us that psychic dreams have been a strong and recurring theme throughout human history.

Egyptians built temples for inducing prophetic dreams and Australian Aborigines believed that knowledge is first acquired through dreams.

We now know that most precognitive experiences occur during dream time and that telepathically transmitted images are less fragmented when they occur in dreams.

From an evolutionary standpoint, it makes sense to hypothesize that the brain circuitry involved with psychic phenomena overlaps with that of dreaming.

Researchers have shown that the brain activity patterns of people with medical syndromes such as synesthesia and autism are similar (both have high incidences of psychic abilities) to those of other people when they are dreaming.

This correlation might be a result of common evolutionary roots.

Essentially, it appears that psychic abilities are an evolutionary development that resurfaces in modern people when the newer areas of the brain are less active.
