The Soul

In shamanism, it is believed that when we are born, we come to this world as a complete and whole crystal ball of energy (metaphorically speaking).

To put it simply, this crystal ball of energy is nothing more than our nature-given soul.

However, during our lifetime, we experience a plethora of trauma that can shatter our souls, causing us to lose important fragments that remain stuck in time and space.

These soul fragments linger in the past and remain inaccessible until we retrieve them and reintegrate them.

Therefore, in shamanism, soul loss and soul retrieval are the main constituents of the process of healing.

There are three ways to lose a fragment of one’s soul:

The first one entails the previously mentioned shattering of the soul.

The second way of losing a soul part includes the decision of the fragment to leave in order to prevent the whole soul complex from dying out.

The third way entails having a certain soul part stolen from you. This is what typically happens with children, as they are prone to giving up parts of themselves in order to take care of certain traumatic situations.

Quite logically, as we move through life and leave more and more pieces of our energy or soul behind, our general energy level decreases.

The problem is when we do not go back to retrieve those lost parts of our souls.

Assaults and other horrific events may lead to this leaving of the soul parts which can leave the person dissociated.

Because of the severe implications of soul loss, shamans have devised a healing practice called “soul retrieval,” a long time ago.
