Sacred Places
It is well known that shamans are closely connected to the environment. Being attuned with nature and various settings allows for a more powerful and effective shamanic practice.
Settings in which shamans perform their rituals need to be conducive or add more power to the shamanic ceremony that they are performing.
On the flip side of the coin, shamans tend to avoid places packed with negative energy because they draw away from the effectiveness of their journeys and rituals.
These special places are often referred to as power spots or sacred places.
Although these two terms are used interchangeably, power spots relate to the physical characteristics of a place that make it extremely conducive and powerful, whereas sacred places highlight the spiritual qualities for which certain places are being revered.
If we went back to prehistoric times, we would find that hunters and gatherers saw mountains, lakes, and streams as places of high power (due to the abundance of prey). However, caves and various stone formations were often seen as places of great power as well.
