Defining Nightmares
Nightmares are scary dreams in which our deepest fears come to life in convincing detail.
Essentially, whatever we fear the most is likely going to become the subject of our nightmares.
Throughout history, people’s understanding of the origins of nightmares varied greatly.
Some cultures saw nightmares as genuine experiences of the soul that roams other worlds when our bodies are asleep.
Other cultures believed that nightmares are the result of demon visitations.
Western culture nowadays sees nightmares as harmless imaginations.
Be that as it may, nightmares—no matter how terrifying they may be—carry a huge potential for personal growth.
Since our dreams are heavily populated with our fears, learning how to confront them in the right way often translates into our waking life and makes us more confident and less anxious human beings.
What we will learn in this lesson is that fear can be blown away by trust, friendliness, and compassion.
We will learn that by becoming lucid in the midst of a nightmare can help us realize that running should not be a viable option.
In fact, escaping is counterproductive, and, more often than not, makes the nightmare worse.
